Tulare, CA- College of the Sequoias is hosting a ribbon cutting on Thursday, January 30, at 4 p.m. for the new Applied Technology & Trades complex located on the COS Tulare Campus. The ribbon cutting will celebrate the completion of three new buildings which will be home to several COS applied technology and skilled trades programs, including agricultural technology, automotive technology, construction technology, electrical training, environmental control technology (HVAC), industrial maintenance, and industrial automation programs. The new buildings will adjoin the current Welding Technology building which opened in 2013. In total, the complex will provide nearly 70,000 square feet of covered labs, classrooms, computer labs, and support space for the students studying in these disciplines. It also will include a two-acre outdoor education area for outdoor teaching projects, student events, and industry partner activities. “Although these are not new programs for COS, this is the first time they have been housed together, in one location. I look forward to the synergy between departments and the opportunities for students to interact with multiple faculty,” said Louann Waldner, Provost for the COS Tulare Campus. “What an opportunity for our students to be able to walk out into this multi-disciplinary complex and see the many skilled trades available to them.” Community support and funding through Measure J was the impetus for the Tulare Campus, which opened in January 2013. The Applied Technology & Trades complex will complete the work funded by that measure. “We are so very excited to see the completion of the Measure J project here at the Tulare campus,” said Marla Borges, Chair of the Measure J Oversight Committee. “It is truly amazing what can be accomplished when communities come together to provide the best facilities and education to our local students.” “It is an exciting time to be starting a career as a skilled trades professional,” said Randy Emery, chair of the COS Industry & Technology Division, which houses most of the career technical education programs moving into the complex. “This new complex shows the commitment of our community toward successful careers of the future.” COS Tulare welcomes the community to join the groundbreaking ceremony. Please R.S.V.P. at COStrades.eventbrite.com. The COS Tulare campus is located at 4999 E. Bardsley Ave. Tulare. It offers a full complement of general education courses, as well as student support services including admissions, financial aid, counseling, library, tutorial services, and student success. In addition, it is home to the agriculture and industry & technology divisions. The campus sits on a 493-acre parcel of land of which 320 acres is farmed and used by the agriculture instructional programs.
