The WHD enforces Federal minimum wage, overtime pay, recordkeeping,

and child labor requirements of the Fair Labor Standards
Act. WHD also enforces the Migrant and Seasonal Agricultural
Worker Protection Act, the Employee Polygraph Protection Act,
the Family and Medical Leave Act, wage garnishment provisions
of the Consumer Credit Protection Act, and a number of employment
standards and worker protections as provided in several
immigration related statutes.
Additionally, WHD administers and enforces the prevailing wage
requirements of the Davis Bacon Act and the Service Contract Act
and other statutes applicable to Federal contracts for construction
and for the provision of goods and services.
The presentation will cover an overview of the Agency, Sacramento
District Office and a comprehensive overview of the Fair
Labor Standards Act, including the Minimum Wage, Overtime
and Recordkeeping Requirements, and the Break time for Nursing
Mother’s Provision of the Fair Labor Standards Act, and common
violations and practices found in the Central Valley.
Jamika Lopez began her career with
the US Department of Labor, Wage
and Hour Division as an investigator
on the sunny island of Oahu with
the Honolulu District Office in 2007.
She then returned to California
where she worked as an investigator
for the Los Angeles District Office
and the Sacramento District Office.
In 2015 she began her role as
the Community Outreach Resource
& Planning Specialist (CORPS) for the Sacramento District Office.
Prior to joining the Department of Labor, Jamika worked for wage
and hour class action firms in the San Francisco-Bay Area representing
low wage workers.
Jamika graduated from the University of California, Berkeley with a
Bachelor of Arts in English Literature and received her Juris Doctorate
from the University of California, Hastings College of the Law. She
is committed to practice law in the State of California and is a member
