After missing the exhibition in 2020 Baskets and Gourds: Containers of our Culture VIII is back for the 5th time at Arts Visalia. This biennial exhibition of baskets and gourds is held at Arts Visalia in conjunction with the Baskets and Gourds, Containers of our Culture Workshop in April. The workshop, held at the Elks Lodge Mill Creek Conference Center, is a collaboration of basket, gourd and handweaving artisans. Artists and keynote speakers at the conference come from around the country to share their love of basketry and gourd work. Such persons include Lisa Baurmeister-floral and filagree gourds, Robin Bryson-ink painted gourds, Judy Burkett-Zentangle Gourds, Sue Coleman-Washo basket weaving, Gloria Crane-carved gourds, Deb Curtis-modern and traditional baskets, Vickie Dewitt-functional baskets, Jody Dingivan-gourds, Vickie Echols-Gourd basketry, Bonnie Gibson-Southwestern Gourds, Betsy Gribble-Basketry, Bonnie Kennedy-basket weaving, Annetta Kraayeveld-Paper and basket weaving, Sam McKinney-beaded gourds, Margaret Mathewson-Traditional basket weaving, Olive Moore-Gourd art, Kathy Rousso-Knotless-netting baskets and gourds, Jennifer Wool-woven baskets, Toni Best-Pine needle coiling, and Cookie Hanson-Woven sculpture. The Baskets and Gourds exhibition is on display at Arts Visalia from March 30th-April 29th, 2022. The community is invited to meet the artists at the First Friday Opening Reception on April 1st, 2022, from 6-8 pm.
