A community meeting regarding construction detours and delays at Akers Street and Highway 198 will be held at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 9, in the cafeteria of El Diamante High School, 5100 W. Whitendale Ave. Representatives of 4Creeks engineering, NV5 consultants, the City of Visalia and the contractor, Yarbs Grading and Paving, will be on hand to present the plans and the phasing of construction. In addition to joining the scheduled presentation, residents can participate via Facebook live on the City of Visalia’s official page. Residents may also hear the presentation when it is presented to Visalia City Council members at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 21, at City Hall. Information will also be available at www.visalia.city/akers198 and residents can receive real-time updates on closures and delays by signing up for mobile alerts. The project, scheduled to begin on Monday, Jan. 13, entails the widening and improvements of Akers Street and the on-ramps at the Highway 198 interchange, which will help reduce traffic congestion at the intersection. Construction is expected to continue through September.
