Overview The Shelter staff will be a supportive member of the Visalia Rescue Mission’s Ministry team, providing a healthy and safe environment for all overnight guests. Providing support in all areas of daily Shelter routines and activities that are congruent with a healthy and spiritual lifestyle. Performs administrative and office support activities which may include fielding telephone calls, receiving and directing visitors, word processing, and filing. Proficient Microsoft Office knowledge, internet research abilities and strong communication skills are required. Rapidly assess problematic situations & conflict resolution. Ability to work Holidays & weekends.
Essential Functions • Checking and updating chore lists. • Alcohol and drug testing. • Shelter intakes and exits. • Reporting maintenance issues. • Checking mail. • Scheduling interviews. • Distributing and handling donations. • Organizing and filing office supplies. • Laundry (bedding & towels), basic housecleaning, and maintain a clean and safe environment. • Creating daily logs of workday and incident reports. • Checking guests bags and belongings. • Mandated reporting to Manager and Supervisor of any incident or suspected incidents against children. • Reporting abuse of any kind to Manager and Supervisor. • Supervise mealtimes and community showers.
Qualifications • Experience in relevant field (preferred). • Excellent oral and written communication. • Thoroughness / Extreme attention to detail. • Discretion and independent thinking. • Personable and professional customer service demeanor. • Computer Knowledge / Technical Capacity. • Proficient in Microsoft Office software.

Physical Demands • Attendance and punctuality. • Ability to complete significant amounts of computer screen work and entry without restriction. • Ability to stand or sit in one place for long periods of time. • Ability to lift moderate supplies, walk the campus, stand or sit for extended periods of time. • Ability to walk, stand, bend, stoop, and kneel. • Ability to lift, push or pull up to 25 pounds repetitively throughout the day and up to 50lbs. • Ability to travel stairs. • Travel in a vehicle to worksites as need across the organization
Environmental Conditions: • Indoors in typical office environment with little exposure to excessive noise, dust, fumes, vibrations, and temperature changes approximately seventy-five percent (75%) of the time. • Frequently work at fast pace with unscheduled interruptions. • Responsibilities may require an adjusted work schedule, overtime, and evening/weekend hours in order to meet deadlines. • May move (walk or drive) from one work location to another occasionally.
Compensation: • Pay is based on experience. • Health benefits following 60 days of continuous employment. (Full-Time Employee’s ONLY) • CalSavers option is available after 30 days of continuous employment.
